About the Position
Durham City Transit Company dba GoDurham is recruiting Bus Operators to transport passengers throughout Durham. This is a Part‑Time role with a guaranteed minimum of 28 hours per week. Additional hours are available based on availability. Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for the full benefits package.
Training- Full training to obtain a CDL and required endorsements (160‑240 hours of behind‑the‑wheel and classroom instruction).
- Successfully passing the CDL Permit and subsequent license is required to continue employment.
- Starting pay: $16.85 per hour.
- Pay increases to $18.05 at 6 months, and $25.00+ after 4 years.

- Operations will create a Part‑Time schedule for each employee—typically nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional days.
- Abide by all safety, federal transit requirements, traffic regulations, and company policies.
- Complete all required paperwork—including manifests, pre/post‑inspection checks, accident reports, and other forms.
- Follow dispatch instructions and efficiently handle pick‑up and drop‑off sequences.
- Answer passenger questions politely and accurately.
- Ensure passengers’ ride is comfortable and safe.
- Provide assistance to individuals as needed.
- Keep current on the operation of all service routes.
- Valid CDL Permit within 7 business days of class start, followed by a valid CDL with passenger endorsement before completion of the full training class.
- Ability to maintain a DOT card.
- Six years of driving experience preferred.
- Good driving record and ability to drive in all adverse weather conditions.
- Prior bus or heavy vehicle driving experience preferred.
- Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
