Landfill Equipment Operator performs skilled work at the County's landfill. This position involves the operation of heavy equipment to move earth and debris in the disposal of refuse. The Landfill Equipment Operator is responsible for operating such equipment as bulldozers, compactors, front end loaders, graders, forklift, dump truck, stretch wrapping machine, farm tractors, and backhoe to spread, pack, and cover refuse and debris as well as participating in the maintenance of landfill equipment.
This position is exposed to the usual unpleasant working conditions associated with landfill work. Graduation from high school supplemented by training in heavy equipment operation and maintenance with 3 years of experience preferred in the operation of heavy motorized equipment in sanitation and/or landfill operations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including transits, front-end loaders, bulldozers, forklift, mechanics tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
