Primary Purpose of Position
The Mail Route Carrier is responsible for efficiently and accurately picking up mail from designated campus routes and metering outgoing mail. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring timely and organized mail delivery across campus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Responsibilities:
• Perform daily rounds to pick up incoming mail from designated campus locations, including mailrooms and designated drop-off points.
• Sort and organize incoming mail according to designated routes and delivery destinations.
• Ensure the security and confidentiality of all mail during transportation.
• Use mail carts or other designated equipment to transport mail efficiently and safely.
• Meter outgoing mail using postage meters or other designated equipment following established procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records of mail pickups, deliveries, and metering activities.
• Collaborate with mailroom staff and other relevant personnel to coordinate mail delivery schedules and ensure smooth operations.
• Report any issues or discrepancies related to mail pickup, delivery, or equipment to the appropriate supervisor.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while performing job duties.
• Provide excellent customer service to campus departments and external partners as a representative of the mail services team.
Qualifications:
• Prior experience in mail handling, mail delivery, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with postage metering equipment and mail processing procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Prefer at least an Associate’s degree, with a focus in business, accounting, or management.
