FLSA STATUS: Full-time, exempt, benefit eligible

HIRING RANGE
: $88,642 - $104,154

SUPERVISION
:
Department of Public Works Director

Qualifications:

Graduate of a four-year college with a Bachelor’s degree with sevento ten (7-10) years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skillsand abilities to perform and essential functions of the job. Previous Municipal experience preferred.

Special Requirements :

Valid Driver's License. Class B Driver's License and Hoisting Engineers License preferred.

  • Nature of Work:

    The Operations Manager coordinates the daily operations of Highway,Transfer Station and Vehicles Maintenance. This employee coordinates personnel and resources in order to ensure the efficient operation of the Department of Public Works. Employee is required to perform all similar orrelated duties.
  • Supervision Received:

    Under direct supervision of the DPW Director, working from municipal policies and objectives; individual establishes short- and long-range plans and objectives, Town performance standards and assumes direct accountability for department results. Consults with supervisor only where clarification, interpretation, or exception to municipal policy may be required. The employee exercises control in the development of departmental policies, goals, objectives and budgets. The employee is also expected to resolve all conflicts, which arise and coordinate with othersas necessary.

    Work is generally reviewed only for technical adequacy,appropriateness of actions or decisions, and conformance with policy orother requirements; the methods arriving at the end result is not usually reviewed in detail.
  • Supervisory Responsibility:

    Employee has direct supervision of all subordinate full time and part time positions as well as seasonal employees. Employee, as a regular and continuing part of the job, is accountable for the quality and quantity ofwork done by subordinates and assures the accomplishment of the assigned work in the prescribed manner. Supervisory functions typically consist ofmost of the following: plans, schedules and coordinates work operations tomeet schedules, deadlines and priorities;

    revises work schedules to meet changes in workload or availability of manpower; recommends and justifies to higher levers of management changes in the organization of work, workmethods or assignment of functions to positions that may affect staffing patterns, costs, work standards, etc; assures that completed work meetsthe required standard of quality, timeliness and cost, taking corrective actions as necessary; oversees attendance and leave, typically including approval or ordinary sick and vacation schedules;

    advises employees or performance requirements and prepares formal evaluations of performance;informs subordinates or organizational policies, goals and procedures; resolves employee complaints and effects disciplinary actions, oral warnings and reprimands. The employee is responsible for the supervision of snow andice removal contractors.
  • Confidentiality:

    Employee has regular access to confidential information of the department.

    Confidentiality must be maintained with regard to this information in accordance with Departmental Policy and the Public Records Act.

    Consequences or errors, missed deadlines or poor judgment may include adverse public relations, monetary loss, legal repercussions,labor/material costs, personal injury, jeopardize programs, and danger topublic health/safety.
