The Estimator is responsible for managing preconstruction activities from concept through design. Must have experience in all aspects of estimating, scheduling, constructability, value analysis, and technical knowledge of subcontract trades. Must have effective communication skills to interact with internal and external clients. The Estimator reports to the Director of Estimating.
Supervisory Responsibilities- None.
- Develop preconstruction plans, including scope, budget, schedule, and proposals.
- Attend pre-bid conferences and site inspections as required.
- Review drawings and specifications for accuracy and consistency.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and analyze labor, material, and time requirements.
- Prepare and manage subcontractor/supplier bid scope packages.
- Gather current material pricing and track pricing trends.
- Maintain and develop subcontractor/supplier relationships.
- Coordinate and log preconstruction RFIs.
- Participate in project hand-off meetings and preconstruction team meetings.
- Assist in business development efforts, including industry events and project interviews.
- Stay current on estimating tools, trends, and training opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Expertise in estimating, scheduling, constructability analysis, and subcontractor trade knowledge.
- Strong understanding of various delivery methods and preconstruction services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word); experience with Planswift and Procore is a plus.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years combined experience as a Field Engineer, Project Manager, or Estimator.
- At least 3 years in Commercial/Industrial Construction Estimating.
- Preferably 1+ year of field experience.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel for site inspections and pre-bid conferences as needed.
