Microbiologist

Microbiologist with research and analytical skills. Microbiologists should be technical and scientific experts with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Microbiologists ensure the safety and shelf stability of finished products, quality of processes, raw materials, and finished products through inspection, diagnosis and record keeping in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Performs multiple tasks and uses diverse types of test equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Isolating cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in the appropriate media by isolating them and regulating their aeration, nutrition, moisture, and temperature.
  • Quantitative determination of microorganisms.
  • Qualitative determination of microorganisms.
  • Media preparation and ordering.
  • Air testing with Orum Air Sampler
  • Potable water testing (coliform and

    E. coli.)
  • Listeria testing (swabbing only)
  • Perform and record all laboratory daily checks accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Hand and Uniform testing
  • Calibration of lab equipment (Micro Lab and Analytical lab equipment)
  • Categorizing microorganisms using a microscope to examine morphological, physiological, and cultural traits.
  • Creating technical reports and suggestions based on the findings of your investigation.
  • Collecting and analysing samples taken from the facility using microbiological techniques to identify potential contaminant sources.
  • Perform audits on various environmental programs and perform reviews.
  • Develop various testing processes for all raw materials and equipment and monitor all finished products.
  • Develop and document various microbiology laboratory processes and prepare final reports.
  • Operate laboratory equipment (autoclave, incubator, microscopes, scales, etc)
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations as well as HACCP and Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Responsible to report food safety and quality concerns to Supervision, Quality or Senior Management. Support the SQF system through adherence to plant policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualification Requirements
  • Ability to plan and execute experimental protocols.
  • Proficient in methods and practices of microbiological analysis.
  • Great ability to prepare research papers and technical reports.
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and research skills.
  • Strong leader who displays accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong IT and math skills.
  • Excellent laboratory skills.
  • Willingness to keep up to date with current information and research.
  • Computer skills (LIMS, Microsoft office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and ERP system).
Education and Experience
  • Excellent knowledge of microscopes, electronic equipment, chemical samples, and stains and weighing equipment.
  • Highly skilled in microbiology techniques, methodology, equipment and supplies.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory tests used in microbiology work.
