The Commercial Network Strategy Principal is responsible for shaping and driving network strategy for a designated line of business. This highly visible role partners with P/L executives and Provider Relations leadership to establish and oversee the network strategy for a specific line‑of‑business. This role is accountable for designing and driving the execution of a multi‑dimensional strategy that delivers high‑value, competitive, and compliant networks.
Success requires strong executive presence, the ability to influence without direct authority, and a proven track record of leading and measuring the value of large‑scale strategic initiatives across a matrixed organization.
- Serve as the primary Provider Relations strategic partner to the Growth team’s P/L owner:
Facilitate strategic discussions with P/L owners and executives in other parts of the organization to drive decision‑making and prioritization. - Translate P/L priorities into a clear, actionable network strategy aligned with enterprise objectives.
- Deliver executive‑level reporting, insights, and recommendations to maintain visibility, clarity, and alignment at the highest levels.
- Design and drive execution of a plan to measure the value of the network strategy.
- Represent and advocate the interests of the P/L (Line of Business) within Provider Relations and communicate Provider Relations priorities, interests, and strategy to the P/L owner.
- Ensure organizational compliance by partnering with operations teams to meet state and federal regulations and Blue Cross Association requirements.
- Leverage deep expertise in provider finance, provider performance analytics, provider contracting teams to inform decisions.
- Lead the design of network strategy based on P/L owner priorities, leveraging Provider Relations strategic levers:
Market‑competitive rates, Performance‑based agreements, Network design, Innovation and engagement. - This job may have one to three direct reports and include people management responsibilities.
- Facilitate strategic meetings with senior leaders to align on priorities, drive decisions, and ensure accountability through structured follow‑up.
- Minimum of 7+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
- Proven success in developing relationships and leading complex, enterprise‑wide strategies.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling executive‑level presentations.
- Exceptional organizational and time management ability, with flexibility to change priorities as needed.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
- Advanced business acumen, financial knowledge, and interpersonal skills to navigate complex organizational structure and influence change.
- Must be able to manage sensitive, complex, or ambiguous situations with influential stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams and driving results across large, complex initiatives.
- High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in health care (provider or health plan).
