Recreation Program Assistant - Holz Farm Camps

Summer, 2026 |
Pay: $20.92 per hour |
Part-time, Seasonal, Not Benefit Eligible

We're looking for positive, energetic, and organized individuals to serve as a role model, support seasonal staff, and help maintain a fun, structured, and inclusive summer experiences! This leadership position will focus on planning and implementing all activities for four weeks of youth camps at Historic Holz Farm.

The Program Assistant will work June through August, with a combination of daytime and evening hours and weekend opportunities. Work anywhere from 20 up to 36 hours per week.

  • June 2: CPR/First Aid/AED Training, 6:00pm – 9:00pm at City Hall

    Mandatory staff training
  • June 11 & 12:
    Farm tour
  • June 15–26:
    Planning and setup weeks
  • June 29:
    Camp starts!
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination, planning, and day-to-day implementation of Holz Farm Camps.
  • Work with and provide service to individuals from diverse backgrounds (age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc.).
  • Provide exceptional customer service, including communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Serve as on-site lead staff member for programs and events as assigned.
  • Communicate with supervisory staff to keep them informed of any concerns or issues related to staff, participants, or community individuals.
  • Request materials and supplies as needed.
  • Complete weekly reports as requested by Supervisor and/or Programmer.
  • Lead staff in set-up, take-down, and basic cleaning of program area.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed – training provided!
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Job seekers should be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • College coursework toward or degree in Parks and Recreation or related field.
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and program implementation.
  • Previous experience with a Parks and Recreation agency or related field/setting.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Two (2) years of college coursework in recreation, education, event planning, or closely related field OR
    Two (2) years of work experience in recreation-oriented programs, event planning, education, or closely related setting.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of Eagan Parks & Recreation Department and its programs.

Supervision

The Program Assistant will be supervised by the Recreation Supervisor and be provided work direction from the Recreation Programmer(s) and Recreation Specialist(s). The Program Assistant will be responsible for work direction of other seasonal staff.

Physical Requirements
  • While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, run, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
Working Conditions
  • Working conditions may include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours both indoors and outdoors.
  • Outdoor weather conditions may include sun, rain, wind, humidity, high and low temperatures, snow, and other natural weather conditions.
