Job Description Summary
The Estimator III/Sr. Estimator is responsible for business development and the preparation of complete electrical estimates of industrial and commercial projects, including automotive, mission critical, and healthcare. Complete estimates include all quotations and subcontractors required for the project. A high degree of accuracy, communication, and attention to detail is required.
Role & Responsibilities- Accurately interpret design drawings and specifications submitted, including all disciplines: civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical.
- Schedule and participate in estimating kickoff meetings.
- Perform pre‑bid reviews with the Estimating Team, including the Chief Estimator.
- Lead final bid reviews with the entire Estimating Team.
- Prepare quotations of materials and subcontracts.
- Review and understand Electrical and Low Voltage Systems specifications.
- Review bid documents and attend pre‑bid meetings and job walks to determine the scope of work.
- Participate in interview preparation meetings, customer interviews, and respond to customer questions.
- Participate in committee and department meetings.
- Identify and develop estimating standards.
- Accurately estimate labor, materials, and administrative costs for projects.
- Lead small teams of estimators tasked with preparing estimates for large projects.
- Assist the Chief Estimator with scheduling estimating resources and planning required to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Complete bid forms and prepare necessary supporting documentation.
- Create scope of work documents that accurately describe inclusions, assumptions, and clarifications used in preparing bid estimates.
- Develop scopes of work and/or bid leveling documents used in soliciting quotes for third‑party products and services.
- Level bidders to ensure complete scopes of work and accurate cost information.
- Collaborate with the Business Development team and/or division leadership to develop a bid strategy specific to each opportunity.
- Verify and maintain detailed records of estimate revisions and other supporting documents as needed, to serve as back‑up for open‑book projects.
- Verify completion of the estimator checklist.
- Facilitate communication with Sales and Preconstruction teams as well as Designers, Project Managers, General Foremen, and others to resolve issues throughout the project.
- Utilize estimating software to properly estimate projects, enter data, and perform takeoffs.
- Assist with the development of training and mentorship programs.
- Develop and mentor talent.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) year degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical conceptual estimating, low‑voltage estimating, National Electrical Code requirements, and design/build estimating (preferred).
- Strong computerized estimating skills using electrical estimating software; experience with Accubid or Enterprise is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Bluebeam software for estimating and construction‑related purposes.
- Strong mathematical skills, coupled with strong Microsoft Office skills (with an emphasis on Excel) are mandatory.
- Competent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; presentation skills highly desirable.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload to ensure timely and accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
- Ability to work in both an autonomous environment and as part of a larger team.

- Effective time‑management skills and ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
- Work cooperatively within diverse teams, internally and externally, to achieve group and organizational goals.
