Job Overview

Ecolab is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer in the Equipment & Connected Solutions team to lead advanced mechanical engineering across new product development and product support. The role involves driving innovation from concept through commercialization, providing deep technical expertise and mentorship, and influencing cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑impact electromechanical systems.

What You Will Do
  • Lead mechanical design and development of complex dispensing, control, and electromechanical systems from early concept through commercialization and lifecycle support.
  • Serve as a key technical leader on high‑impact projects, defining design approaches and guiding teams through technically challenging decisions.
  • Translate customer, business, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements into robust design solutions and specifications.
  • Plan and execute mechanical engineering activities including concept development, design analysis, tolerance assessment, risk mitigation, prototype evaluation, and verification testing.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost.
  • Drive design improvements and innovation for both pipeline and launched products to enhance customer value, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide deep expertise in mechanical design fundamentals, including plastics, fabricated parts, assemblies, mechanisms, and design for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, electrical, software, chemistry, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain, and marketing partners to deliver integrated product solutions.
  • Work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners on component selection, design reviews, tooling and part approvals, pilot builds, troubleshooting, and production readiness.
  • Support and influence technical reviews, qualification strategies, risk assessments, and manufacturing transfer activities to ensure successful launches.
  • Support releasing and modifying equipment specifications through established change processes including ECR and ECO workflows.
  • Act as a technical mentor and resource to other engineers, helping elevate engineering capability, design quality, and problem‑solving across the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and 8+ years of experience, or Master’s degree and 5+ years, or PhD and 3+ years.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering for new product development, product support, or related technical development roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or act as a key technical contributor on projects of significant scope and complexity with high business impact.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation using Solid Works or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • No Immigration Sponsorship available for this opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad experience across multiple facets of the product development process, including concept development, detailed design, testing, manufacturing transfer, launch, and post‑launch support.
  • Deep knowledge of plastic component design, fabricated parts, assemblies, mechanisms, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools and methods, including tolerance analysis, finite element analysis, and structured problem solving.
  • Experience developing test methods, qualification strategies, and verification plans, and interpreting data to drive decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with significant latitude in determining technical approaches and resolving ambiguous problems.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, design review leadership, best practice development, or cross‑project influence.
  • Strong analytical, decision‑making, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across cross‑functional teams.
  • Knowledge of product safety, regulatory, and manufacturing considerations for equipment and electromechanical products.
