We are currently partnering with a longstanding, private MN based manufacturing company on a Cost Accounting Manager position. This role partners closely with finance, accounting and operations leadership and is responsible for managing cost accounting activities while supporting project‑based financial reporting and analysis supporting multiple locations. reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller
This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone with strong cost accounting roots who enjoys working cross‑functionally, improving processes, and ensuring accuracy and visibility across financial operations. This will have two direct reports - leadership experience preferred but not required. Good place to take that leap into leadership!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain and continuously improve standard product costing; item setup, bills of materials, labor and overhead rates, and material pricing/yields.
- Identify and drive cost improvement opportunities.
- Analyze manufacturing variances and partner with operations to address causes and improve performance.
- Oversee EDI systems to ensure seamless and accurate transaction flow between business systems.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting to support timely and accurate monthly close and year‑end audit processes.
- Serve as a key financial resource to operations and administrative teams, supporting problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Present financial insights to division operations leadership.
- Collaborate with the FP&A Manager to ensure accounting and costing practices support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers and ensure timely issue resolution.
- Lead and mentor accounting personnel, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment and delivering exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the accounting team to ensure all responsibilities are executed accurately and efficiently; oversee performance management, compensation reviews, and communication of policies.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required); MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of financial accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a multi‑plant and/or multi‑entity environment is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
