Overview
The IT Support Specialist is the primary contact for operational technology support at Winsted, including onboarding, hardware provisioning, and day-to-day infrastructure maintenance. This role works with the IT Manager to implement the company's technology and security strategy, with responsibility for network health, server administration, and endpoint management. As the front line of support, the IT Support Specialist will respond to help requests promptly and courteously, thoroughly investigate and resolve issues, and proactively monitor systems to prevent problems before they occur.
The position requires strong interpersonal communication skills, solid troubleshooting instincts, and hands-on experience managing Windows Server environments and network infrastructure.
- Internal Support
- Perform friendly and effective training and orientation of new employees on Winsted IT systems
- Provide prompt and friendly assistance for all IT support requests for on-site and remote employees based in the US
- Meet regularly with the IT Manager to discuss progress on projects, apprise of roadblocks and recurring issues, etc.
- Assist department leaders in updates and administration of platforms, software and SaaS tools including CRM, ERP and website CMSs.
- Network & Server Administration
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including switches, firewalls, VLANs, and VPN/remote access solutions
- Administer Windows Server environments:
Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services - Manage and monitor backup systems for endpoints and servers; perform periodic restore tests
- Assist with security initiatives including patch management, access controls, and incident response
- Equipment Management
- Order computers and new hardware as needed based on business and role requirements
- Maintain hardware/software vendor relationships for best pricing, process scalability, lead times and support
- Configure computers, software, and user accounts according to documented policies
- Manage endpoint deployment and compliance via Microsoft Intune
- Publish and continuously update documentation of procedures and hardware assets under management, in a digital format accessible to the rest of the IT department
- Consistent timely response to support requests
- Regular reporting on system health, backup status, and security posture
- Associate degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience
- Windows Server administration:
Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP - Microsoft 365 administration including Entra (Azure AD), Exchange Online, and Defender
- Networking fundamentals:
Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, firewall rules, VPN - Endpoint management via Microsoft Intune or similar MDM
- Windows operating system including Power Shell scripting
- Strong troubleshooting methodology and documentation habits
- Network+ or similar certification
- Experience with managed switches and firewall administration (Ubiquiti, Fortinet, or similar)
- Zero-trust networking concepts or tools such as Tailscale
- Linux/BSD server administration
- Virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware, Xen Orchestrate or Proxmox)
- Microsoft Entra Conditional Access and Identity Protection
- SharePoint, Power BI, or Power Automate
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic scripting beyond Power Shell
