Under frequent supervision, gain a broad understanding of RLI and the underwriting function through real‑world experience, on‑the‑job training, and project‑based assignments. Work alongside experienced underwriting professionals to develop an understanding of risk evaluation, account analysis, and the role underwriting plays in supporting profitable business growth.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Assist underwriting team members with the review and analysis of new and renewal business.
- Gather, organize, and review account information to support underwriting analysis and decision‑making.
- Assist with research and analysis related to accounts, industries, market trends, or underwriting projects.
- Gain exposure to underwriting concepts including risk selection, pricing, coverage, and profitability.
- Complete project‑based assignments and present findings or recommendations as appropriate.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with underwriting, operations, and other business partners.
- Work closely with experienced professionals, colleagues, and fellow interns to gain industry knowledge and develop professional and team‑building skills.
- Attend planned educational, professional development, and social activities to gain a broader understanding of RLI's business and build relationships across the organization.
- Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned.
Requires a high school diploma and college coursework with 0-2 years of experience in a related field or position.
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with an interest in evaluating information and making informed decisions.
- Ability to gather, organize, and analyze information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to learn new concepts, processes, and systems and apply them to assigned work.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to ask questions and learn from others.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Interest in insurance, risk management, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
- General Internship: $20/hour
- IT & Underwriting: $22/hour
- Legal: $25/hour
- Actuarial: $22-$28/hour
