Executive Summary

The VP of Major Accounts is responsible for achieving net growth targets and financial goals established in the annual budget. The incumbent will lead the Fully Insured, Self‑Insured, National Accounts, Taft‑Hartley, Large Accounts, and Complex Accounts segments, align strategy with enterprise goals, manage a high‑performing team, and oversee the departmental budget.

Responsibilities
  • Establish strategic approaches to develop and maintain positive relationships with consultants and agencies, increasing market penetration.
  • Develop and manage strategies that support National accounts with the BCBSA and Consortium Health Plans.
  • Develop and manage a consultative selling approach for both the sales team and the account management team when interacting with clients and distribution partners.
  • Maintain relationships with key decision makers and influencers at the client level and distribution partners.
  • Implement annual business plans, including strategies and tactics designed to achieve corporate membership and financial goals and support the corporate three‑year strategic plan.
  • Establish an organizational structure and processes that create a high‑performing sales and retention team, setting expectations and goals, providing motivation, and facilitating ongoing training.
  • Apply continuous improvement to maintain an effective structure and process.
  • Build positive working relationships with underwriting, actuarial, marketing, health services, operations, and other supporting functional areas while developing growth and retention strategies.
  • Process collection of competitive data and intelligence for competitor health plans and health systems.
  • Drive team culture, embodying company values from first interview to last day.
Required Skills and Experience
  • 10+ years of related professional experience with 3+ years of management experience; all relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • 5 years of sales management experience and comprehensive knowledge of commercial products.
  • Expert strategic planning, business planning, and consensus‑building skills.
  • Innovative, action‑oriented, high‑energy leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with customers, colleagues, board members, regulators, and community.
  • Sound judgment and decision‑making skills in ambiguous, time‑sensitive situations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the health care environment, local and national markets, leading‑edge products, account management strategies, competitive drivers, and best‑practice design.
  • Familiarity with health plan product features, networks, underwriting principles, sales cycles, claims trends, and other business drivers of sales and account retention.
  • Personnel motivation, mentoring, and change‑management skills to motivate and lead a skilled professional staff.
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills – written, oral, and presentation.
  • Demonstrated depth of problem‑solving and management experience across functional areas.
  • MN resident producer license in the lines of Life & Health/Accident.
  • High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual pay range: $0.00 – $49, – $99,. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), paid time off (PTO), volunteer paid time off (VPTO) and more.
