Recreation Team Leader –
Spark! Puppets
• Summer 2026
• Pay: $18.39 per hour
• Part-time, Seasonal, Not Benefit Eligible
The Spark! Mobile puppet team is an important part of our community outreach, offering original live performances all summer long. The team performs original scripts based on relevant weekly themes with a variety of fun characters. We visit 15 parks a week and reach hundreds of community members. The team also teaches 3 weeks of Spark! Puppet Camp over summer for kids ages 6-11.

The Spark! Team works Monday - Friday, June through August during the day and on select weeknights. Some weekend opportunities may be available. Work up to 30 hours per week!
Interviews for this position begin March 19. Offers of employment will be made by April 8.
Required Staff Trainings and Hours- Staff Open House:
May 20, 4:00pm - 5:30pm - Leadership Training:
May 27, 5:00pm - 6:30pm - CPR Training:
June 2, 5, or 12 - Art House Camp Training:
June 10, 9:00am - Noon;
June 11, 9:00am - 3:00pm (lunch provided) - Programs run June 15 through August 7
- City Holidays are June 19 and July 4
Can’t work the whole summer? That’s okay – please still apply and let’s chat! We want staff to have some flexibility to take on other adventures throughout the summer while still serving our community’s needs.
A few things to keep in mind:
- All staff are expected to be a part of mandatory staff training on June 8-11.
- Hiring preference is given to staff who can commit to more weeks of the full summer. Please share dates you may or will need off before or during your interview.
- Most leadership positions require a full season commitment.
- Lead a great team of summer puppeteers.
- Guide the puppet team through rehearsals and performances.
- Perform with the team as necessary.
- Keep the imaginary puppet world real and magical to Eagan’s youngest audiences.
- Organize the setup and take down of Spark! Mobile wagon and equipment.
- Drive the Spark! Mobile to several locations throughout the city - training provided!
- Assist in the writing of weekly scripts.
- Request supplies and materials as needed.
- Answer questions and provide information to parents and members of the public.
- Keep supervisor informed of any concerns related to the program.
- Administer basic first aid as needed –
training provided! - Other duties as assigned
- Job seekers should be age 18 or older -OR- have one year of experience in an arts & performance setting.
- Valid Driver's License.
- One year of college coursework in performance, arts, recreation, education, or closely related setting.
- Have experience leading a team.
- Have availability Monday – Friday in the summer.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications.
The Team Member will be supervised by the Recreation Supervisor and be provided work direction from the Recreation Programmer(s), Recreation Specialist(s), and Program Assistant(s).
Physical Requirements- While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk and hear.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, run, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
- Working conditions may include daytime, evening, weekend and holiday hours both indoors and outdoors.
- Outdoor weather conditions may include sun, rain, wind, humidity, high and low temperatures, snow and other natural weather conditions.
