Job Summary
As a Grooming Salon Leader at Petco, you will lead salon operations and team members, while delivering expert grooming services to customers' pets. Your passion for people and pets will ensure a positive experience and exceptional care for every pet.
Essential Job Functions- Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, ensure smooth workflows, optimize scheduling and grooming capacity, manage inventory, and execute staffing plans.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise entry‑level trainees up to professional groomers; provide coaching, feedback, training, and performance evaluations in a positive, collaborative environment.
- Create and manage efficient grooming schedules that maximize productivity and accommodate customer demand.
- Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, productivity), analyze data, and develop action plans.
- Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing strategies to drive growth.
- Interact professionally with pet parents, provide exceptional customer service, address inquiries, offer recommendations, and resolve concerns.
- Stay abreast of grooming industry trends and best practices to enhance skills.
- Perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, cutting, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) following breed standards and company policies.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
- Evaluate each pet’s needs based on coat, skin, temperament.
- Educate pet parents on maintenance, home care products, and overall well‑being.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of every animal, monitor for signs of discomfort or illness, and report concerns.
- Perform quality checks, keep salon clean and safe, disinfect tools, perform daily and weekly cleaning tasks as per Petco hygiene policies.
- Adhere to Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines for safety, quality, and consistency.
- 2+ years as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
- Strong leadership skills; 1–2 years salon management or related experience preferred.
- High‑school diploma or GED preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues, and behaviors.
- Expert proficiency in breed‑specific cuts and styling techniques.
- Passion for animals and desire to continue in pet grooming.
- Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills in moderately complex situations.
- Results‑driven with focus on salon productivity, performance, growth, and improvement.
- Attention to detail and precision in services.
- Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments.
- Availability to work full‑time (35+ hrs/week) including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
The role is largely indoor, requiring bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs, and standing for long periods. The position may involve work around heights (two‑step ladder) and exposure to vacuums. Operations involve frequent contact with pet parents and their dogs; environment can be noisy and wet.
Salary Range$15.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on location, experience, and regulatory minimum wage requirements.
