JOB DESCRIPTION

The MEP Superintendent is responsible for the daily operation of a job site, including scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. Supervises all direct labor positions on the assigned project and manages any contracted work on the site to ensure successful project completion.

Responsibilities
  • Study specifications to plan procedures for construction based on timelines and staffing requirements for each phase.
  • Interact with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule and develop "look ahead" schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues.
  • Coordinate the pre‑construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
  • Direct procurement of tools and materials, ensuring they are delivered on time to conform to work schedules.
  • Keep all parties informed of construction issues and progress by meeting with supervisory personnel, craft personnel, subcontractors, and clients as needed.
  • Work with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
  • Consult with supervisory and engineering personnel and/or inspectors and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and schedules.
  • Manage the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs, adjusting schedules accordingly (new construction superintendents only).
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel between projects, manage crew mixes, and control labor costs; may terminate company craft personnel not performing per company policies.
  • Prepare the Project Management Plan in conjunction with the project manager.
  • Implement company policies such as safety, equal opportunity, and others consistently; maintain quality standards and housekeeping requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent, with at least 5 years of commercial construction experience in a Mission Critical environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Solid understanding of building codes and design requirements; ability to read blueprints accurately.
  • Good understanding of subcontractors’ scopes of work and tolerances.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; basic Spanish preferred.
  • Finish carpentry skills relevant to commercial interior work; can install finishes to specifications.
  • Administrative skills: monitor progress and coordination of work activities; keep stakeholders informed.
  • Management skills: establish techniques to monitor and supervise subordinates and follow up on delegated assignments.
  • Integrity and adherence to ethics, conduct, and organizational policies.
  • Excellent problem‑solving ability: synthesize data from different sources to formulate solutions.
  • Team player who works well with colleagues, customers, subcontractors, and others to achieve goals.
  • Interpersonal skills: use tact and sensitivity to others.
  • Organizational skills: establish priorities and plan effectively for multiple tasks.
  • Professionalism: appropriate appearance and conduct; make a good impression.
  • Initiative: self‑starter who influences events to achieve goals beyond minimal performance.
  • Proficiency with office equipment (fax, copier, telephone) and software (spreadsheet, word processing).
  • Knowledge and use of CMiC preferred.
  • Project experience with hospitals/medical facilities ($10 million plus).
