The Substitute Teacher provides instructional and classroom support when a teacher or instructor is absent. Substitute Teachers may be called in advance or, when unexpected absences occur, on the same day coverage is needed. Substitute Teachers typically serve as a Class Instructor or Teacher’s Aide rather than taking over the responsibilities of a homeroom teacher. The role includes providing small-group instruction, supporting classroom routines, and supervising students throughout the school day.
Direct Instruction training is required and will be given.
The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:
- Provide reading, math, and spelling instruction using Direct Instruction programs.
- Review lesson plans and prepare instructional materials as needed.
- Follow lesson plans, teacher instructions, and established classroom procedures.
- Maintain classroom management and student behavior expectations.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, transitions, and other assigned activities.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Maintain required student data and records.
- Communicate student concerns or classroom issues to the appropriate staff member.
- Collaborate with teachers, instructors, and campus staff to support student learning.
- Assist with DIBELS benchmark assessments for grades K–6 during designated assessment periods in September, January, and May, when not assigned to classroom coverage.
- Attend required training and meetings.
- Support substitute coverage needs across campuses as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Positive, professional, and calm when working in a changing or unexpected environment.
- Willing to take initiative and step in where support is needed.
- Willing to learn and consistently apply Direct Instruction programs, classroom procedures, and school expectations.
- Committed to maintaining a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Willing to travel between campuses as needed.
