Sr Technician - Eagle Mountain

Job Description

The technician position is responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the pipeline system while demonstrating specialized expertise in one of the following functional areas: compliance, compression, controls, corrosion, measurement, or pipeline. In addition, the technician will demonstrate task expertise in two supporting functional areas.

Essential job functions include duties and responsibilities of entry‑level technicians and require proficiency in three specialty areas to progress to the next level. The role applies a thorough knowledge of pipeline facility preventive maintenance and work described under the Kern River operations job progression system. Responsibilities include handling natural gas related to turbine compression and all related subsystems, meter stations, pipeline facilities, corrosion control and right‑of‑way maintenance;

performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on turbine control packages, cathodic protection systems, gas quality equipment, gas measurement equipment, facility communications equipment, and pipeline facilities; handling facility encroachment activities including pipeline location, excavation, and inspection from one‑call notifications or direct calls; interfacing with technical support, government agencies, local emergency planning committees, emergency responders, one‑call agencies, landowners and contractors; and performing public education activities including formal presentations.

Candidates must acquire knowledge of operator qualification responsibilities and perform operator qualification skills required for call‑out duties within six months of hire. An associate’s degree in instrumentation electronics or equivalent experience is required. Experience in electronic systems and instrumentation with applications in measurement, corrosion control, turbine compression, and pipeline operations is preferred, though typically three years of related progressive work experience is needed for those without an associate’s degree.

Candidates should possess strong organizational, interpersonal, initiative, and both oral and written communication skills. A solid working knowledge of computers and desktop software (Outlook, Word, Excel) is preferred. Candidates must be able to read and interpret operating manuals and engineering standards, and learn specialty computer programs and equipment, including fluke test equipment for measurement calibration and analysis; compressor alignment software and equipment;

and turbine and compressor performance analysis software. Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills are required. Candidates must be 21 years or older, hold a valid driver’s license, pass a commercial motor vehicle physical, and be able to drive in adverse road conditions. Duty may require work in remote locations, often alone, and sometimes in adverse weather or hazardous conditions. Proficiency with hand tools, ability to push/pull, walk, climb stairs and ladders, carry some heavy loads, work overhead, and work in cramped quarters are required.

After‑hours work, routine on‑call rotations subject to 24‑hour a day callout, and some out‑of‑area travel may be required. A company‑provided cell phone and laptop computer must be carried.
