Lead Solar Technician
If you want to shape the future of energy, we are looking for a Lead Solar Technician to join our Operations & Maintenance team!
Who you will work withThis position will involve work at multiple solar PV power plants maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting AC and DC circuits ranging from medium voltage (345kV and below) to 12 VDC. You will maintain equipment such as motors, motor controls, switch gear, transformers, inverters, solar PV panels, panel tracking mechanisms, protective devices, generators, lighting, power supplies, HVAC, security and battery systems. You will troubleshoot and overhaul such equipment, perform preventative and predictive maintenance, and supervise up to ten Solar Technicians.
You will schedule daily activities, review work procedures, advise technicians, and attend meetings as requested.
- Lead a team of up to 10 Field Service Technicians, focusing on reliability‑based philosophies, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating performance.
- Execute daily scheduling to prioritize work, maximize generation, and ensure proactive work completion.
- Install, test, maintain and troubleshoot minor components and assist with major components.
- Perform current and voltage calculations.
- Complete reports, records, and documentation associated with maintenance and repairs.
- Follow Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out (LOTO), JSA, Permit to Work and other safety documentation.
- Identify improvement opportunities, collect data, and prepare reports for performance monitoring.
- Perform balance‑of‑plant and switchyard work as required.
- Facilitate training, certifications, safety, and compliance training.
- Diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions to intermediate routine issues.
- Promote safety, recognize safe acts, and intervene when unsafe acts occur.
- Maintain safety standards, mitigate risk, and recommend actions to management.
- Read schematics to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
- Review service checklists for accuracy and maintain punch lists.
- Support regional maintenance activities and QA/QC activities.
- Collaborate with Technical Support for proactive repairs.
- Comply with HSEQ policies and procedures (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001).
- Ensure all materials used in maintenance are removed from SAP inventory.
- Assist with balance‑of‑plant activities when needed.
- Participate in on‑the‑job and off‑site training.
- Complete required training within specified time frames.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the renewable energy sector, or
- 3+ years of related experience with an Associate’s Degree/Technical School Certification, or
- B.S. Degree (electrical or technical) and at least 6 months of applicable experience.
- Supervisory experience as a lead or foreman.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to use electrical test equipment (DMM, meggers, calibration tools).
- IR Certificate Level 1; ultrasound qualifications a plus.
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory and troubleshooting techniques.
- Excellent communication, instruction, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, SQL Server, facility management, and diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment.
- Experience with industrial operations and maintenance.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, short notice, and respond to site emergencies 24/7.
