HVAC and Sheet Metal Superintendent - 120-145k plus per diem $700 a week and car allowance or company vehicle $900 a month.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced HVAC and Sheet Metal Superintendent to oversee the execution, supervision and completion of industrial HVAC and sheet metal construction scopes, including ductwork fabrication, installation and air handling system work. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time and within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with industry regulations. The Superintendent coordinates with project managers, subcontractors and field personnel to optimize labor, materials and schedules for efficient project execution, with particular attention to mission critical mechanical systems on data center projects.
Reports to the Construction Manager. Supervises HVAC Foremen, sheet metal mechanics, installers and subcontractors.
Responsibilities- Oversee all field HVAC and sheet metal construction activities, including ductwork fabrication, installation and air handling equipment set, ensuring alignment with project plans and schedules
- Manage HVAC installers, sheet metal mechanics and helpers, assigning the right personnel to the appropriate tasks
- Develop and maintain HVAC and sheet metal construction schedules, coordinating equipment tie ins and system startups
- Monitor ductwork fabrication, installation and air handling system work to enforce adherence to SMACNA standards and company quality requirements
- Ensure all crews follow OSHA and company safety regulations, including elevated work, rigging and confined space protocols
- Coordinate and supervise HVAC and sheet metal subcontractors to maintain project efficiency
- Ensure timely delivery and availability of ductwork, air handling units, VAV boxes, sheet metal materials and rigging equipment
- Coordinate with controls and testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) contractors to support HVAC system startup and commissioning critical to data center cooling reliability
- Identify and resolve field issues related to ductwork routing, trade clashes and mechanical coordination to avoid project delays
- Stay informed of local, state and federal mechanical codes and SMACNA/ASHRAE standards
- Maintain regular communication with project managers, engineers, controls contractors and site personnel
- Maintain accurate records of daily construction activities, safety incidents, ductwork installation progress and startup status
- Assess workforce efficiency and implement strategies for continuous improvement
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field preferred
- OSHA 30 certification required
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required for personnel overseeing refrigerant handling work, SMACNA training preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial HVAC and sheet metal construction
- At least 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience on HVAC or mechanical construction sites
- Experience with mission critical or data center HVAC systems (CRAH/CRAC units, air handling units, containment systems, chilled water air side systems) strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork fabrication and installation methods and SMACNA standards
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, ductwork shop drawings and project specifications
- Proficiency in construction scheduling software such as Procore, MS Project or Primavera P6
- Familiarity with data center cooling systems and containment strategies preferred
- Strong leadership and decision making skills to manage field operations effectively
- Excellent problem solving abilities to address HVAC and ductwork coordination challenges
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across project teams and stakeholders
- High attention to detail for quality control and regulatory compliance
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Experience with mission critical or data center HVAC systems
- Familiarity with data center cooling systems and containment strategies
