Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting the Teacher in the planning and implementation of the classroom program. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Assisting children with self‑care activities, indoor and outdoor learning activities, meal or snack time activities, and student transportation duties.
  • Providing effective and nurturing teacher‑child interactions.
  • Planning and implementing learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment.
  • Promoting children’s progress across the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework:
    Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.
  • Supporting services and individualization activities for children.
  • Assisting teacher with ongoing observations in support of screening and assessments.
  • Providing feedback to classroom teacher in the area of individualization documentation.
  • Reinforcing lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one‑on‑one or in small groups.
  • Supporting a healthy and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Supporting staff and child ratios.
  • Providing activities for children on the bus and maintaining current emergency information for all children on the bus.
  • Providing First Aid/CPR as required.
  • Helping children feel safe and comfortable while being transported.
  • Properly labeling and following sanitation requirements for the program.
  • Assisting children into and out of the bus and with food sanitation requirements during field trips.
  • Sitting and eating with children during all meal times; modeling good nutrition habits.
Individualization
  • Assisting teacher in planning for individual needs of children.
  • Assisting by reinforcing activities for children in collaboration with teacher.
  • Supporting and implementing appropriate redirection practices.
  • Assisting teacher with daily documentation in reference to daily observations.
  • Releasing children from the bus to the parents, guardians or authorized persons only.
  • Serving as an information liaison between the Tribal Student Services staff and the parents.
Disability Services
  • Assisting in the recruitment of children, including children with disabilities.
  • Providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all children.
  • Providing teacher with individual child’s input based on daily observations.
  • Accompanying children with disabilities to special‑need appointments when necessary.
Curriculum
  • Assisting teacher in the implementation of the curriculum.
  • Ensuring all aspects of child development are integrated into classroom activities.
  • Assisting teacher in establishing open and ongoing communication with parents.
  • Supporting the development of the weekly lesson plans by providing input from classroom observations.
  • Assisting teacher with documentation and record keeping.
Family Partnership Building
  • Supporting parents’ understanding of community agreements and how they affect families.
  • Maintaining open communication with parents and building relationships with students to create a positive, safe, and welcoming school culture.
  • Supporting parent participation in lesson plan development and understanding of child development.
  • Participating in program assessments, including community assessment and self‑assessments.
Parent Involvement
  • Assisting teacher in encouraging parental involvement in parent meetings and workshops.
  • Supporting parental participation in the development of weekly lesson plans.
  • Supporting parent participation in local parent meetings and family engagement events/activities.
Community Partnership

Familiar with and supports collaborative agreements with community and community partners.
