Salary: GS‑09, Step 1 – $61,722.00 to GS‑11, Step 10 – $97,087.00, with promotion potential to GS‑12, Step 10 – $.
DutiesAs a Telecommunications Specialist you will coordinate and conduct performance measurements on new and advanced wireless telecommunication equipment and techniques. Typical assignments include:
- Installing, troubleshooting, repairing, redesigning, and maintaining telecommunications systems.
- Configuring and maintaining telecommunication networks and applications such as intrusion detection systems, land, mobile radio communications, and video surveillance.
- Resolving telecommunication equipment failure and unsatisfactory performance problems.
- Providing recommendations and proposals on new and advanced equipment and techniques.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
- English language proficiency (pre‑employment processes conducted in English).
- Background investigation will be required.
- CBP's Drug‑Free Workplace Plan compliance required.
- Background investigation may include felony checks, controlled substance checks.
- Residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP.
GS‑9: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, including assisting with installation, training, configuration, and technical evaluations.
GS‑11: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, including maintaining system performance, installing and troubleshooting telecommunications systems, and assisting with tower equipment installation.
Education & Education SubstitutionGS‑9 and GS‑11:
Completed graduate education or equivalent, with major in a related field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or telecommunications.
- Motor Vehicle Operation:
Valid state driver’s license required;
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. - Overtime:
Uncontrollable, unscheduled overtime beyond 40‑hour work week may be required. - On‑Call: 24/7 availability may be required.
- Passport:
International duty assignments may require an official passport. - Physical demands:
Climb ladders, towers, lift equipment >50 lbs; work may be performed in electronics shop or remote sites.
