Licensed Vocational Nurse; PRN - STAT Specialty Hospital

Job Summary

The Emergency Room LVN at STAT Specialty Hospital provides direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and performs nursing procedures within the scope of their education and demonstrated abilities under the supervision of a RN.

• Performs vitals, blood draws, IV insertions, and EKGs on patients when indicated.
• Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients.
• Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care given, and performs admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
• Uses the nursing plan of care in daily assignments, reviews it, and under supervision, modifies the plan of care.
• Observes and records signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status, and proposes revisions of interventions and desired outcomes.
• Delivers designated nursing interventions consistent with the stated medical plan of care.
• Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status; recognizes patient care priorities, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and potential patient care crises.
• Follows physician's orders in the delivery of nursing care.
• Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of patient health information.
• Administers medications and treatments safely and properly.
• Executes written physician's orders for assigned patients.
• Assembles equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures in the specialty service area and assists others with procedures or treatments.
• Adheres to required infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques in patient care.
• Documents nursing care in all assigned patient records.
• Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Basic computer skills.
