Position: Support Staff

Responsibilities
The Support Staff at New Hope Sober Living Home plays a crucial role in providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment for residents in recovery from substance use disorders. This position involves assisting residents in their daily activities, promoting a sober lifestyle, and fostering a community of accountability and personal growth.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Assist residents with daily living activities and help them maintain a clean and organized living space.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to residents as they navigate their recovery journey.
Facilitate communication between residents and staff to ensure a cohesive living environment.
- Assist in the implementation of recovery programs, workshops, and group meetings.
- Encourage participation in house activities and community events to promote social engagement and peer support.
- Monitor the premises to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
- Conduct regular check-ins and maintain a visible presence in the house.
- Enforce house rules and policies consistently and fairly.
- Respond to emergencies and crises with appropriate interventions and support.
- Maintain a calm and supportive demeanor in challenging situations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident progress, incidents, and any relevant observations.
- Assist in the intake process for new residents, including orientation and assessment.
- Collaborate with therapists, counselors, and other staff to create a holistic support system for residents.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Assist clients in accessing community resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, and social services, to support their recovery journey

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to work with alcohol or drug dependent program participants and understand the recovery process
- Ability to be calm and work with persons in crisis
- Ability to provide holistic, comprehensive information and referral services
- Ability to connect program participants with community resources
- Must be self-motivated, organized, dependable and able to meet deadlines
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to do public speaking and conduct educational sessions and/or translate Spanish to English or English to Spanish.
- Bilingual, English, or Spanish; knowledge of Kickapoo language a plus
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all departments of the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas.
- Ability to use personal computer, calculator, phone, copy, scan, and fax machine.
- Ability to be self-motivated, organized, detailed oriented and meet deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily, weekly, or monthly tasks.
- Awareness and strong knowledge base of KTTT and Eagle Pass community and social service resources.
- Some knowledge of addictions field, recovery process and rehabilitation
- Must have cultural awareness and sensitivity of Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.
- Empathy and compassion for clients facing challenges with addiction
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Supervision exercised:
This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Education/experience requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Must have at least one year of working in addictions field and have knowledge of recovery process and rehabilitation.
Preferred Qualifications
:
High school diploma or GED. College courses in psychology, sociology, social work, addictions or related fields.
Native American preference is observed:
