Job Description

Substitute Bus Driver Transportation Department, Eagle Point, OR

Join Eagle Point School District 9 Driving Excellence in Student Transportation. Eagle Point School District 9 (EPSD9) is seeking reliable and safety-focused individuals to join our Transportation Department as Substitute Bus Drivers. This essential role ensures students are transported safely and punctually to school and school-related activities. As a valued team member, you'll help foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students.

Located in the heart of the beautiful Rogue Valley in southern Oregon, EPSD9 serves over 3,600 students in Eagle Point, White City, and nearby communities. The district blends small-town values with forward-thinking educational practices. Our Transportation Department plays a key role in delivering on our promise to support student success, every day.

About the Role

This is an on-call, as-needed position perfect for candidates seeking flexible, part-time work with an impact. Substitute Bus Drivers operate school buses in accordance with state and district guidelines, ensuring safe student transport on regular routes and extracurricular trips.

Hours and days vary depending on school schedules, inclement weather, and route needs. This is a non-routine, highly valued position where dependability and care for student safety are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate school buses on assigned routes or to designated events.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Ensure student safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff.
  • Maintain accurate route and vehicle condition records.
General Expectations & Licensing Process

EPSD9 welcomes both experienced drivers and newcomers who are willing to train for a Commercial Driver License (CDL). If you do not already possess an Oregon CDL with a school bus endorsement, we will support you throughout the licensing process.

To begin, applicants must take four written tests at the DMV to receive a CDL permit. They will then complete between 15 and 60 hours of training with the Transportation Department; the average training period is approximately 30 days. Once training is complete, drivers return to the DMV for their road test to obtain the full CDL.

The total cost for obtaining a CDL is approximately $138. The district will reimburse this full amount after the individual has worked 60 days as a Substitute Bus Driver. Additionally, a $71.50 fingerprinting fee is required by law and must be paid at the time of processing.

Who We're Looking For
  • Dependable individuals committed to student safety.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Available on short notice.
  • Must hold a valid Oregon CDL or be willing to obtain one.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Thrive as part of a team focused on student well-being.
