Public Health Nurse II: $25.12 - $34.50 per hour
Per Diem Public Health Nurse I: $19.00 - $21.12 per hour
Per Diem Public Health Nurse II: $21.12 - $42.23 per hour
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% based on completion of Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree not required for position for regular positions only.
BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Possible Bilingual incentive depending on the applicable MOA and the needs of the department for regular positions only.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency/ Public Health
Public Health Nurses I/II are represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
NOTE:
This class is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an “agency shop” arrangement, which mandates all regular employees either join the California Nurses Association (CNA) and pay dues as a member, or pay either a “service fee” to CNA or direct that an amount equivalent to the “service fee” be distributed to a qualified charitable organization.
BENEFITS: Those benefits listed under the benefits tab are only available to regular employees. Per Diem employees are not eligible.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent and extra-help vacancies for this position within Health Care Agency .

Examples Of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide community health assessment and planning for a geographical area in conjunction with other community agencies and groups.
- Perform clinical duties in assigned public health areas.
- Manages public health caseload which includes assessment, intervention and referral on medical, psycho-social, nutritional, educational and development needs of individuals, families and community groups.
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, And EXPERIENCE
Per Diem Public Health Nurse I and Public Health Nurse I:
Require possession of a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and completion of a program for Public Health Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC), or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Per Diem Public Health Nurse II and Public Health Nurse II
:
Require possession of a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and completion of a program for Public Health Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC), or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); AND, six (6) months of experience comparable to that of a Public Health Nurse I with the County of Ventura's Public Health Department.
Registered Nurses with six (6) months experience as Registered Nurses who are currently enrolled in Bachelor's Degree Nursing Programs leading to a Public Health Nurse Certificate may be hired in an underfill capacity.
Proof of enrollment in such Bachelor's Program (such as transcripts or current enrollment form) are required with the application to be screened on to a list.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)
Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California. Public Health Nurse I and II levels require possession of, OR ELIGIBILITY for, a Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the Board of Registered Nursing, State of California. Must possess a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certificate prior to the first day of employment.
Desirable/Preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is desirable. Where positions require bilingual skills, a Spanish/English examination will be administered.
