When crisis hits our community, a Victim Advocate is often the first steady, empathetic voice a person hears. This position provides critical, immediate crisis response, emotional support, and social service navigation to individuals navigating the physical and emotional aftermath of a crime or tragedy.
Beyond direct crisis outreach, this professional acts as a key operational pillar for the department-helping manage the victim services volunteer program, protecting constitutional victim rights, and maintaining meticulous data tracking to sustain our community-facing programs.

Hiring Range: $30.21-$36.25. (The maximum pay for this position is $42.29).
Schedule:
Full-time, plus some additional on-call work.

El Defensor de Víctimas brinda asistencia a las víctimas de delitos o crisis con información sobre sus derechos y proporciona necesidades emocionales y sociales en un esfuerzo por reducir el sufrimiento físico y emocional de la víctima. Esta posición también ayuda a coordinar el programa de voluntariado de servicios a las víctimas y ayuda a mantener registros para el departamento.
Key Responsibilities:
* Immediate Crisis Response:
Provide 24/7 on-call emotional support, crisis intervention, and immediate safety assessments for victims of crime or sudden tragedy.
* Victims' Rights Advocacy:
Inform and guide survivors through their constitutional rights under the Colorado Visual Rights Amendment (VRA), tracking case progress and assisting with Crime Victim Compensation applications.
* Volunteer Program Coordination:
Help recruit, screen, schedule, and train the department's volunteer advocate team, facilitating monthly meetings and retention initiatives.
* Case Management & Compliance:
Review daily law enforcement crime reports to identify victims in need of outreach, maintaining meticulous statistical records, surveys, and database documentation.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
* Background:
At least 5 years of increasingly responsible administrative/professional experience, OR a combination of continuing education (in Human Services, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field) and experience that demonstrates the required capabilities.
* Preferred Experience:
Previous employment or volunteer work in Human Services, Public Health, community organizations, volunteer management, or crisis intervention is highly preferred.
* Licensure: A valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record are required (must be comfortable operating a vehicle routinely across varying mountain road, weather, and lighting conditions).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Emotional Resilience:
Proven capability to control personal emotional responses under high levels of stress, showing deep empathy, sensitivity, and compassion while defusing volatile situations.
* Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written skills, with a high comfort level in intense telephone interactions. The ability to converse effectively and without judgment with people of divergent ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is highly preferred.
* Analytical
Skills:
Quick to comprehend complex court and investigative processes, summarize data into clean reports, and navigate duplicate computer databases accurately.
* System Flexibility:
Complete comfort working within a 24-hour on-call dynamic.
Law Enforcement Background & Screening Requirements:
Due to the sensitive nature of working inside the criminal justice system and alongside law enforcement, candidates must meet the following strict background criteria:
* Must successfully pass a detailed background investigation, polygraph test, psychological exam, physical evaluation, and drug screen.
* Must not have used illegal drugs within the past 3 years, or marijuana within the past 1 year.
