Teacher - Elementary
Purpose To support and guide students toward the fulfillment of their intellectual, emotional, social, and academic potential through high-quality instruction aligned with District curriculum and educational standards.
Supervision Received The Elementary Teacher works under the direction of the School Principal and receives instructional direction, guidance, support, and feedback from the Dean of Student Achievement. The position also collaborates with and receives support from District-level staff, including curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches, academic specialists, and other designated leadership, as appropriate.
Essential Duties- Plan, implement, and deliver instruction aligned with District-approved curriculum, instructional practices, and student learning objectives.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans, including substitute lesson plans, that address individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials to support student learning, including lectures, discussions, projects, hands-on activities, and technology-based instruction.
- Create and maintain a positive, safe, and organized classroom environment that supports student engagement, learning, and appropriate behavior.
- Assess student learning through formal and informal methods; evaluate progress; assign and grade work; and provide required progress reports.
- Administer district- and state-required assessments and standardized testing in accordance with established procedures.
- Adapt instruction and materials to meet the diverse academic, social, and developmental needs of students.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in Building Study Teams, Special Education meetings, and other student support processes as requested.
- Communicate effectively and regularly with students, parents/guardians, and staff regarding student progress, needs, and concerns.
- Establish and enforce classroom expectations and school rules; supervise students and address behavioral or academic concerns in collaboration with appropriate staff.
- Supervise and support assigned instructional aides, volunteers, or student teachers as applicable.
- Maintain accurate and complete records related to attendance, grades, progress, and instructional materials in accordance with District and legal requirements.
- Follow school safety procedures, including emergency, evacuation, and lockdown protocols, and take reasonable precautions to protect students and facilities.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the building principal.
Minimum Qualification Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of effective elementary instruction, including differentiated instruction and developmentally appropriate teaching strategies.
- District-approved curriculum, instructional frameworks, and assessment practices aligned with state standards.
- Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and proactive classroom management strategies that promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Social-emotional learning (SEL) principles and practices that support student well-being, engagement, and growth.
- Assessment methods, including formative and summative assessments, progress monitoring, and data-informed instructional decision-making.
- Classroom organization, lesson planning, and instructional design to support student learning and engagement.
- Strategies for supporting diverse learners, including students with varying academic abilities, cultural backgrounds, and learning needs.
- Legal and ethical responsibilities related to student supervision, confidentiality, mandatory reporting, and educator conduct.
- Effective communication and collaboration practices with students, families, and school staff.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and professional working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Read, interpret, and apply work-related materials, policies, procedures, and instructional content.
- Deliver clear instruction and communicate lesson content effectively to students with varying learning needs.
- Observe, supervise, and monitor student behavior and activities throughout the instructional day to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
- Maintain student safety and provide supervision during classroom activities, transitions, and school events, including the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations such as evacuations, lockdowns, or other safety incidents.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, school, and family information.
- Demonstrate reliable work habits, including punctuality, attendance, and preparedness.
- Participate in assigned co-curricular activities, faculty meetings, professional development, and in-service training as directed.
- Apply sound judgment, professionalism, and ethical behavior in all interactions.
