An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the supervising veterinarian
- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Conduct diagnostics
- Provide dentistry services
- Observe, assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage patients medically
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff and clients
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Eagle Animal Clinic are offered to veterinary students in their final year of veterinary school.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Stipend amounts and program details are available.
