If selected, you will assist in planning, developing, organizing, and administering complex operational and technical assistance programs designed to efficiently, effectively, and safely reduce wildlife damage that adversely impacts agricultural interests, human health and safety, property, and natural resources. The programs are of major economic and public health significance and are conducted in both rural and urban areas.

Basic Requirement: Degree:
Biological Science that included: at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects such as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or related courses; at least 12 semester hours in zoology covering general, invertebrate, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or related courses (excess wildlife biology courses may be used to meet zoology requirements where appropriate);

and at least 9 semester hours in botany or related plant sciences.
Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For the GS-9 Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-7 level) demonstrating leadership of small teams, budget creation, policy interpretation, and regulatory compliance in wildlife damage management. Alternatively, 2 years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a master’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or management. Equal combinations of education and experience may also qualify.

Responsible for efficiently, effectively, and safely reducing adverse wildlife-related impacts to agriculture, property, natural resources, and human health. Plans work for subordinates, establishes priorities, and prepares schedules. Assists with development and implementation of strategic plans and new policies. Ensures compliance with NEPA and other environmental laws. Coordinates with federal, state, county, and municipal agencies to identify wildlife damage management needs. Cultivates community and media relations, including presentations and local news articles.

Negotiates and reports on cooperative agreements. Tracks WDM operation budgets with supervisor guidance.
