The RoleAs a Commercial Wet Worker / Commercial Dwelling Engineer
, you will play a key role in supporting district heating schemes, communal plant rooms, and residential/mixed-use properties. Focusing heavily on Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and hydraulic heating systems, you will carry out installation, servicing, fault diagnosis, and commissioning to ensure optimal heating efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- HIU & Network Maintenance: Perform installation, servicing, maintenance, and component replacement on Heat Interface Units (HIUs) across communal and district heating networks.
- System Fault Diagnosis & Commissioning: Execute full fault diagnosis, performance testing, and commissioning on HIUs, district heating systems, and associated plant room equipment.
- Heating Controls & Electrics: Safely isolate electrical circuits and perform detailed fault finding/repairs on heating controls (including Y Plan, S Plan, programmers, motorised valves, thermostats, and smart controls).
- Plumbing & Heating Infrastructure: Install, maintain, and replace radiators, pumps, valves, and associated system components while executing system balancing, low-temperature heating optimisations, and heat loss assessments.
- Planned & Reactive Maintenance: Carry out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs, aiming for high first-time fix rates through efficient van stock management.
- Digital Reporting & Rota Participation: Maintain precise digital service records and job reports via mobile PDA devices. Participate in the out-of-hours call-out rota as required.
- Customer Care & Mentorship: Provide professional, customer-focused service at all times and offer guidance to apprentices and junior engineers.
- Health & Safety: Adhere strictly to our client’s Health & Safety Policy, properly manage issued PPE, adhere to HSE ACoP L8 guidelines, and report any hazards,
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Plumbing
Qualifications:
City & Guilds Level 2 & 3 in Plumbing (or equivalent). - Water Regulations: Formal Water Regulations training (WRAS approved).
- Asbestos Awareness: Certificate of Asbestos Awareness Training.
- District Heating
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience working with district heating networks and communal plumbing systems. - HIU Expertise: Hands-on experience with HIU servicing, fault finding, repair, direct/indirect configurations, and energy metering interfaces.
- Electrical Safety & Controls: Strong working knowledge of safe electrical isolation procedures, hot/cold water distribution services, and Y/S Plan heating controls.
- Driving Licence & Flexibility: Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to participate in the on-call rota.
- Low Temperature Heating Systems Training.
- Unvented Hot Water Qualification (G3).
- Manufacturer-specific HIU Training Certificates.
- Working knowledge of communal heating plant rooms.
- Certificates in Working at Height, Manual Handling, or 1-Day First Aid.
- Technical Problem Solver: Strong analytical skills to diagnose network-side and customer-side heating faults quickly and effectively.
- Great Communicator: Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer-first approach.
- Adaptable & Driven: Ability to work autonomously or as part of a collaborative field team while staying up to date with evolving technical standards and industry regulations.
