JDI Industrial Services is the industrial maintenance division of J. Job Duties & Responsibilities- Lead the structural design and analysis of industrial projects in facilities, including steel structures, reinforced concrete foundations, equipment supports, pipe racks, platforms, and specialized industrial structures.
- Perform detailed structural calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and dynamic analysis for vibration-sensitive equipment and heavy machinery.
- Develop and review structural drawings, specifications, and construction documents for industrial projects.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, AWS, and industry-specific standards (e.g., API, PIP).
- Conduct site assessments, structural condition evaluations, and feasibility studies for new and retrofit industrial projects.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, electrical, fabrication, and process engineers) to integrate structural systems with overall plant design.
- Provide technical oversight during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing site inspections.
- Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, and value engineering recommendations.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development toward PE licensure.
- Participate in project meetings, client presentations, and proposal development.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Master’s degree preferred) with a focus on Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in South Carolina (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months).
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, with at least 5 years specifically in industrial projects.
- Strong proficiency in structural analysis software: STAAD.Pro, SAP
2000, ETABS, RISA-3D, and foundation design software (e.g., SAFE, MAT). - In-depth knowledge of steel and concrete design for industrial applications, including heavy equipment foundations, elevated structures, and seismic/wind design.
- Experience with industrial-specific challenges such as vibration analysis, fatigue design, and large-span structures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Strong technical credibility with both engineers and construction professionals.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
- Natural bias toward constructability, safety, and cost-effective design solutions.
- Comfortable making hard decisions and communicating them clearly.
