Wastewater Treatment Design Engineer

Job Overview

GFT is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Design Engineer to join our Water team. This hybrid role requires attendance at one of our many offices.

Joining the water resources team at GFT means contributing to innovative solutions for sustainable water management and infrastructure. Our team excels in dams, levees, advanced treatment, stormwater management, and conveyance.

In this role you will lead and support design, optimize, and manage systems that treat and transport wastewater to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.

• System Design:
  Design wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and collection networks. Create detailed CAD drawings and select equipment.
• Process Optimization:
  Analyze and enhance treatment techniques (pH adjustment, chemical dosing, aeration) to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• System Hydraulics:
  Perform hydraulic analysis, choose pumps, and evaluate performance of existing pumps.
• Testing and Monitoring:
  Analyze lab data, operator reports, and chemical usage to resolve operational issues.
• Compliance and Safety:
  Ensure treated wastewater meets regulatory standards and protects public health.
• Project Management:
  Conduct feasibility studies, upgrade existing infrastructure, manage projects from design to completion, develop cost projections, and oversee construction or commissioning.
• Data Analysis:
  Monitor operator reports and lab results to refine treatment techniques.
• Technical Expertise:
  Act as a specialist in conventional and advanced treatment processes, including primary, secondary, tertiary, membrane bioreactors, side‑stream, and disinfection.

• BS in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering. MS preferred.
• Professional Engineer license (PE) required or the ability to obtain it in 6–12 months.
• 8+ years of experience in wastewater engineering, including design studies and construction of treatment and collection projects.
• Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Preferred: EPC project experience, design of wastewater facilities, and leading process design with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contract, client service, and quality.
• Knowledge of preliminary, primary, biological (BNR), disinfection, hydraulics, and solids handling.

Salary range: $90,000 – $200,000, dependent on experience and location.
