the township of east brunswick is accepting applications for a full-time service worker ii within the department of public works. This position will work under the direction of the roads coordinator and with a group of employees to perform tasks involving maintenance, repair, resurfacing, construction of roads, sewer infrastructure, leaf collection, snow and ice control, & other duties as assigned. Main responsibilities include:
- improving operations, decreasing turn‑around times, streamlining work process and working cooperatively and jointly with all township departments to provide quality service.
- preparing the job site for work by setting up and placing warning devices and traffic barricades.
- ensuring materials and tools are available as needed, returning tools and equipment to the proper place, and keeping tools and supplies in a clean and orderly condition.
- installing, cleaning, repairing catch basins, headwalls, and associated drainage structures.
- sweeping the streets and shoveling accumulations into containers and trucks.
- assisting in snow and ice control and having the ability to operate vehicles equipped with snowplows and spreaders.
- performing related duties as assigned.

knowledge, skills, & abilities:
- knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, practices, occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in performing general maintenance and repair work.
- ability to identify, use and operate common hand and power tools; the equipment, materials and methods used in storm sewer pipe installation, repair and maintenance; safety regulations and procedures pertaining to work, including but not limited to proper trench shoring and barricading methods.
- ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in english sufficiently to perform this position
experience: 1 year plus related experience in road maintenance.
education: high school diploma and/or equivalent required.
licensing & certification: valid nj driver’s license and (cdl) class ‘b’ commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements and capable of operating equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assignments.
