The Linde Leadership and Technical Orientation Program (LTOP) is a program sponsored by Linde's United States Bulk and On‑Site unit. The program follows a 52‑week structured curriculum designed to give broad exposure to all aspects of plant operations with limited exposure to the broader Linde organization. The curriculum includes training common to operations and opportunities for technical cross‑training. The LTOP is a mentored program, with each participant assigned a sponsor, and is specifically designed for those desiring to use an engineering/technical degree to leverage a management career and grow within the organization.
Specific areas of operations you will study include: air separation, hydrogen, hydrogen‑carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, helium, rare gases and standard plants; safety, health and environmental; distribution, logistics and customer service. Operations support functions will also be covered.
Responsibilities- Operate the plant using the control system and physical equipment such as motors, compressors, pumps, instrumentation, and utilities (electrical, water, steam, instrument gas).
- Assess the efficiency and operating capability of plant equipment, focusing on energy consumption.
- Make changes to operating modes or equipment to optimize efficiency.
- Troubleshoot plant process and equipment problems and implement solutions.
- Utilize control systems and advanced controls technology to optimize plant performance.
- Train operators on safety and plant operations.
- Provide supervision of plant personnel or drivers as assigned.
- Monitor compliance with internal Quality Assurance program requirements and initiate corrective actions as appropriate.
- Execute various aspects of the Linde Safety Program, including training, documentation, inspections, and deficiency corrections.
- Monitor plant and distribution costs for alignment with budgets and targets for improvement.
- Assist plant operations and distribution personnel with day‑to‑day activities such as operating the plant, taking readings, inspecting, starting and stopping equipment, filling product vehicles, and performing Quality Assurance tests.
- Execute projects in the plant according to budgets, standards, and operating schedules; participate in technical sales and business development activities.
Estimated start date for the 2026‑2027 LTOP program will be around July 1, 2026.
LocationsYou will be assigned to a plant location that minimizes the need for future relocation and must be willing to relocate for this program within the U.S. if required. The incumbents will be assigned to the East Chicago, IN location. Some travel is required to selected U.S. locations for assignments, projects, or training.
Qualifications- Must have a B.S. in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- A 3.0 GPA out of 4.0 is highly desirable.
- 0‑3 years of experience preferred.
- Prior internship or co‑op experience preferred.
- Must have very strong technical skill sets.
- Must have a positive attitude, adapt quickly to changing situations, communicate effectively, and build productive relationships across departmental lines.
- Must be a self‑starter, work independently, and participate on cross‑functional teams.
- Must manage multiple priorities, drive issues to completion, and obtain results.
- Must be detail‑oriented with perseverance.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be willing to travel within the region, to other facilities in the region, and occasional trips to other domestic regions; travel outside the region typically does not exceed 25%.
