The Chemical Engineer is part of a dynamic team providing process design and optimization for Grace manufacturing. They develop process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, investigate and resolve issues, identify root cause and implement corrective actions. The Chemical Engineer has the opportunity to collaborate cross functionally on complex problems. They ensure process safety by assessing potential hazards, designing safety measures, and implementing protocols to prevent accidents.
Responsibilities- Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve more difficult equipment and operational problems
- Support daily manufacturing processes, provide engineering expertise, and communicate regularly as an active member of the area process team
- Support process deviations, observations, as well as root cause analysis and identify appropriate, effective corrective actions. Implement corrective actions by collaborating with appropriate functional groups (i.e. Engineering, maintenance, quality, EHS, etc.)
- Lead as technical expertise of equipment and processes in area of responsibility.
- Identify and drive improvement opportunities (ie. procedural changes, upgrades, projects, etc.) associated with equipment within the area.
- Provide oversight to maintenance and operations that support the area
- Ensure a safe working environment by following safety protocol and helping improve the safety culture
- Develop and support introduction of new processes.
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience
- Specialty chemical manufacturing experience
- Experience using communication skills to build consensus and achieve results
- Experience using organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
