Position SummaryThe Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) supports the health and safety of students within the school setting under the supervision of a licensed school nurse. The CNA provides specialized medical care, assists with daily health needs, and supports medically fragile students to ensure they can participate fully in the educational environment.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care to students as delegated by the licensed school nurse, including specialized medical procedures.
- Administer and monitor enteral tube feedings in accordance with prescribed medical plans.
- Perform glucose monitoring and assist with insulin administration under nurse supervision.
- Monitor medically fragile students, respond to health changes, and promptly notify the supervising nurse.
- Assist students with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, mobility, positioning, and feeding.
- Accurately document and maintain student health records in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Implement Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) as directed.
- Provide first aid and respond to minor illnesses, injuries, and other health needs during the school day.
- Assist with health screenings and school wellness activities as assigned.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and district policies.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and safety.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Current Indiana certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (required).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
- Experience working with children, pediatrics, or in healthcare/educational settings preferred.
- Knowledge of diabetes care, enteral feeding, and care for medically fragile students, highly recommended.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to remain calm in emergencies, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively as part of a team.
