About The Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 114 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 60,000 outpatient visits, 25,0 00 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,000 gynecological surgeries per year. Teaching, research and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare.

The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy. Additionally, the Section of Family Planning has established a unique research center, CI3, which focuses on reproductive policy and innovations in sexual and reproductive health.

Job Summary

The job performs a range of professional activities for clinical programs related to teaching, medical research, and clinical care. Facilitates research initiatives of the faculty and staff. The Clinical Business Administrator provides comprehensive administrative and business support to a clinical section, partnering closely with faculty, providers, and departmental leadership. This role supports the daily operations of clinical and academic programs by assisting with compliance initiatives, provider scheduling, and a wide range of administrative functions that ensure smooth and efficient operations.

The Clinical Business Administrator serves as a key point of coordination between the section and internal University departments, helping to facilitate communication, resolve routine operational issues, and support compliance with established processes. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment while providing reliable support to leadership and a large group of providers.

Responsibilities
  • Provides comprehensive administrative and business support to clinical and research faculty, providers, and departmental leadership.
  • Serves as a primary administrative liaison between the section and internal University departments to facilitate communication and resolve routine operational issues.
  • Manages provider scheduling functions, including maintaining on-call schedules and provider service calendars, ensuring accuracy and timely updates within scheduling systems.
  • Supports a system leader across multiple sites including UChicago Medicine and Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
  • Provides administrative support for a large group of clinical providers, including correspondence, document preparation, database maintenance, and coordination of day-to-day office and clinical operations.
  • Independently resolves routine and moderately complex administrative and operational issues, consulting with leadership on higher-level or sensitive matters.
  • Coordinates meetings, travel, events, and complex appointments, and supports the flow of information and communications for leadership offices.
  • Maintains multiple operational databases that supports clinical and departmental functions.
  • Supports special projects and initiatives as assigned, prepares summaries and reports, and assists with operational reviews and process improvements under the direction of leadership.
  • Professionally supports the clinical department management. Implements plans for clinical educational programs and initiatives.
  • Assists faculty in the pursuit of grants and awards. Conducts special studies and projects, including the development and enhancement of funding opportunities by working closely with the faculty in the section.
  • Acts as a liaison between the section and other University departments.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
