Job DescriptionThe East Greenwich School Department seeks a RIDE Certified Grade 1 Teacher for a one‑year contract for the 2026‑2027 school year. The Teacher reports to the School Principal and will manage student behavior, enforce rules and procedures, maintain discipline, and monitor student progress. The Teacher will plan, implement, and assess a program of study that meets individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
Responsibilities- Familiarity with deeper learning and high‑leverage instructional practices.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that accommodates individual student needs.
- Create a conducive classroom environment that reflects student maturity and interests.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals; establish clear objectives and communicate them to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media aligned with available resources and student groups.
- Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develop reasonable classroom rules and procedures, and maintain order fairly and justly.
- Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional time when required.
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers; evaluate their performance with department heads.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary by the administration.
- Confer with parents as necessary.
- Assist in the orientation of new faculty members.
- Advise administrators and faculty on student discipline matters.
- Interpret the school’s objectives to students, parents, and the community.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

- At least one current RI Teaching Certification in Elementary Education, Grades K‑6.
- Must successfully pass a BCI test.
- At least 2 years of relevant teaching experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or appropriate work visa required.
