Job Description

Must have proper certification with RIDE:
Elementary Grades Special Education Teacher, Grades K‑8.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in providing direct, explicit, and evidence‑based instruction to students with identified disabilities. The candidate will create an inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes student growth through individualized instruction, targeted interventions, and meaningful access to grade‑level curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct, explicit, and specially designed instruction aligned to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), using evidence‑based practices, differentiated instruction, and ongoing progress monitoring.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain compliant IEPs, student records, progress reports, and all required documentation in accordance with state and federal special education regulations while serving as case manager for assigned students.
  • Design and implement individualized behavioral supports and interventions, effectively respond to behavioral and mental health needs, utilize de‑escalation strategies when appropriate, and communicate student progress and concerns with families and team members.
  • Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families to ensure coordinated programming, inclusive instructional practices, and consistent implementation of student supports across settings.
  • Supervise and support paraprofessionals, utilize instructional technology to enhance learning, maintain confidentiality, and perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience responding simultaneously to a variety of needs for students and staff while maintaining a high degree of sensitivity to individual needs.
  • Ability to interact with students, staff, and members of the community in a pleasing and positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively handle issues utilizing a personable problem‑solving approach.
  • Capability to work collegially with all levels of administration, staff, families, caregivers, and outside providers as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize the needs and requests of students and staff within the school setting and respond in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Technological proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher), Google Calendar, Google platform, SAMS and Aspen, and ability to learn operation of state assessment online testing software.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
