The Drawbridge Attendant is a key player in keeping Connecticut’s waterways moving safely and smoothly. This essential frontline role ensures 24/7 bridge operations, supporting emergency responders, recreational boaters, and commercial vessels alike. By overseeing the reliable operation of each moveable bridge, the Attendant helps maintain safe navigation, quick emergency access, and dependable passage for the entire marine community.
Responsibilities- Operation of the drawbridge in accordance with established procedures and U.S. Coast Guard regulations
- Monitor and report any electrical, mechanical, or boating-related issues
- Maintain accurate daily bridge logs, recording all openings and incidents
- Remain on-site for the entirety of the assigned shift and stay at the post until properly relieved
- A valid driver’s license and pre-physical examination are required
- Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license in the “Licenses and Professional Certifications” section of the application
- Incumbents in this class will be required to have a 30-mile residency from the posted job location
- Prior to hire, the selected candidate will be required to complete a preemployment physical and work assessment
