The English department in the School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is accepting applications for a part-time adjunct teaching position for undergraduate English credit-bearing courses. Adjunct faculty members teach on a semester-by-semester basis. They are expected to perform all instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of Goodwin University.

Adjunct faculty members report to the Director/Coordinator, who serves under the direction of the Dean.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Abiding by and upholding Goodwin's mission, policies, and core values.
  • Teaching undergraduate students in two courses:
    English composition and a partner course, Introduction to College Writing. These courses meet synchronously online on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6PM to 8:50PM.
  • Implementing assigned courses as designed and specified in approved syllabi.
  • Using Canvas (LMS) effectively.
  • Being available to students for individual consultation.
  • Assisting students with how to be successful in class.
  • Communicating in a timely manner with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Meeting all course and semester timelines, including submitting attendance, progress survey and student support alerts, mid-term grades, and final grades by the specified due dates.
  • Assigning grades based on the criteria specified in course syllabi and posting them to Canvas and the University's data systems within 7 days of assignment submission.
  • Posting initial and midweek Canvas Announcements consistently each week.
  • Providing action-oriented feedback on assignments, during synchronous class sessions, and individually via email, video conferencing, and by phone.
  • Staying current within the field of study.
  • Conducting all work in a safe manner and ensuring all work safety practices are followed.

Other Functions:

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and students.

Education, Training and Experience:

The successful candidate should have:

  • Degree Level (Master's degree required/doctorate preferred)
  • 1 - 3 years' experience
  • Minimum MA in English, or a closely related field.
  • Professional work experience teaching college-level English courses.
  • Proficiency in teaching in an online environment.
  • Experience using web-based applications and learning management software (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Demonstrated dedication to excellence in teaching and commitment to high academic and professional standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
