Adjunct Instructor - PCA - Phlebotomy

Position Description Summary/Purpose :

The Phlebotomy Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, hands-on training, and supervision to students enrolled in the Phlebotomy Program. The instructor ensures that allcourse content aligns with institutional standards, industry’s best practices, and applicable health and safety regulations. This role involves preparing and delivering engaging classroom and laboratory lessons, demonstrating proper venipuncture and specimen collection techniques, evaluating student performance, and fostering aprofessional learning environment that promotes competence and confidence in clinical practice.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

• Deliver engaging and effective instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings following the approved curriculum.
• Demonstrate and supervise venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen collection procedures in accordance with safety and infection control protocols.
• Evaluate and document student performance, providing timely and constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student progress records in compliance with institutional policies.
• Ensure that lab materials and equipment are maintained in asafe, organized, and functional condition.
• Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and ongoing program development.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with accreditation and state requirements.
• Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting professionalism and ethical practice among students.

• Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
• Continuing professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
• Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

• Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, specimen collection procedures, and laboratory safety standards.
• Understanding of infection control, HIPAA compliance, and OSHAbloodborne pathogen standards.
• Ability to effectively teach and demonstrate clinical skills to students with varying levels of experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the abilityto motivate and support diverse learners.
• Proficiency in classroom management and student assessment methods.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate instruction, lab activities, and evaluations.
• Commitment to maintaining a positive, student-centered learning environment.
• Capacity to stay current with developments in the field ofphlebotomy and healthcare education.

• An associate degree (or higher) in a health-related field
• Prior teaching experience, curriculum development, experience with assessment of student learning.
• Current Phlebotomy Certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience as aphlebotomist or related healthcare professional.
• Basic healthcare credentials such as BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

• Valid license & insured vehicle
• Must have completed a Train-the-Trainer program approved by theCT Department of Public Health.
• Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle (if travel to clinical sites is required).
• Must pass background and health screenings per regulatory guidelines.
