Project Engineer – Polymeric Materials Group
This role provides project engineering support to the Polymeric Materials Group, focusing on cross-discipline integration for raw material supply chain changes and obsolescence management. You will coordinate activities across engineering, test, manufacturing, vendors, and leadership to ensure aligned execution of projects, while maintaining clear visibility into schedules, risks, budgets, and logistics.
Responsibilities- Provide project engineering support for the Polymeric Materials Group, with a focus on raw material supply chain changes and obsolescence management.
- Coordinate and lead cross-functional integration efforts across engineering, test, manufacturing, vendors, and leadership to ensure aligned project execution.
- Organize and facilitate meetings with engineers, technicians, and stakeholders to review project status, evaluate daily work steps, and challenge timelines and assumptions when needed.
- Maintain project trackers and documentation to ensure accurate visibility into scope, schedule, risks, and budget.
- Manage project schedules using Microsoft Project and other tools, ensuring milestones and deliverables are clearly defined and met.
- Monitor and communicate project risks, issues, and dependencies, and support the development of mitigation plans.
- Provide budget visibility and tracking for assigned projects, supporting cost control and forecasting activities.
- Prepare and distribute notifications, updates, and reports to stakeholders to keep all parties informed of progress and changes.
- Coordinate logistics such as shipping, materials movement, and other operational support required for project execution.
- Work 1:1 with engineers and technicians to understand the steps they use every day, suggest alternative approaches, and optimize workflows.
- Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to discuss timelines, constraints, and trade-offs, and help align expectations.
- Utilize SAP and other enterprise systems to support materials, scheduling, and project tracking activities.
- Apply agile project management principles to improve responsiveness, transparency, and collaboration across teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Polymeric Materials Group, contributing ideas to enhance efficiency, safety, and durability in product design and manufacturing.
- 4–7 years of relevant project engineering or project coordination experience (P3–P5 equivalent).
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- Hands-on experience with agile project management methodologies in a technical or engineering environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project for creating, managing, and tracking project schedules and milestones.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, tracking, and reporting.
- Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems to support materials, scheduling, and project tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, test, manufacturing, vendors, and leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining clear visibility into schedule, risks, and budget.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings and collaborate 1:1 with engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.
- Capability to analyze existing workflows and daily work steps, and to propose alternative approaches or process improvements.
- Solid understanding of materials science or polymeric materials concepts sufficient to support engineering discussions and decisions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred for candidates with a research and development focus.
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing environments is beneficial.
- Familiarity with raw material supply chain management and obsolescence planning is an advantage.
- Background in safety and durability considerations for complex mechanical systems, such as commercial or military engines, is helpful.
