Position: Senior Principal Engineer, Airworthiness Office (Onsite)

Senior Principal Engineer

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer for the Military Engines Airworthiness Office to serve as the primary advocate for airworthiness execution on multiple programs. This role represents an exciting new approach to airworthiness at P&W, as part of a team devoted specifically to the airworthiness discipline, assisting programs with execution of US Government customer deliverables regarding planning and collection of artifacts that demonstrate compliance to agreed Airworthiness criteria.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading Integrated Product Team (IPT), Component Integrated Product Team(CIPT) and System Integrated Product Team (SIPT) planning for Airworthiness
  • Ensuring timely submission of Airworthiness deliverables
  • Advocating for Airworthiness compliance in the face of potential competing program priorities
  • Coordinating with US Government customers
  • Acting as primary airworthiness advisor to CIPTs/IPTs for achieving Military Flight Release (MFR) or Military Type Certificate (MTC)
  • Authoring drafts of the Airworthiness Plan and Certification Basis
  • Negotiating resolution of internal conflict regarding airworthiness plans, certification basis, compliance, and risk
  • Representing the Airworthiness function in IPT/CIPT/SIPT meetings
  • Participating in implementation of airworthiness elements of model-based engineering systems
  • Developing and administering Airworthiness processes and standard work tools
  • Guiding and mentoring junior members of the Airworthiness Office and IPT/CIPT members in execution of program-specific airworthiness duties

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent STEM degree
  • 10+ years of experience in military Airworthiness and/or civil certification and/or engineering & requirements management; OR an advanced degree with 7+ years of experience in military Airworthiness and/or civil certification and/or engineering
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering
  • Experience working with gas turbine engine subsystems
  • Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516 and related US government/industry publications
  • Experience interfacing with US Government customers
  • Ability to effectively communicate, lead, influence, and coordinate across teams
  • Experience executing the Agile project management concept
