Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer – RTX, Hartford, CT
Location:
US-CT-EAST HARTFORD-RTRC H ~ 411 Silver Ln – Onsite. U.S. citizenship required to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. The role is available to U.S. citizens, U.S. Persons, or those with eligible immigration status who can obtain a security clearance.
At RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, the Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) focuses on research, development, and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do- Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives
- Support AM Qualification efforts utilizing IQ, OQ and MQ with a strong collaborative RTX Business Unit cross functional team
- Develop and utilize advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space
- Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
- Conduct RCCA activities on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps
- Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream
- Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and best practices
- University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- Demonstrated expertise in Additive Manufacturing tools and processes
- Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
- Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
- Hands‑on experience with metal laser powder‑bed‑fusion AM equipment
- Working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and hands‑on experience working with laboratory equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
- PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field
The position is classified as onsite; employees will primarily work at the RTX site. Candidates are expected to commute locally and may be required to attend select interview steps in‑person regardless of role designation.
Compensation & BenefitsSalary range: USD
107,500 –204,500. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Benefit details depend on the business unit and collective‑bargaining agreement.
