What

You Will Do

Pratt& Whitney Compression Systems is looking for a Senior Project Engineer who will be a tactical leader for advanced engines development tasks. The Project Engineer is responsible for the execution of component and module‑level Project Engineering Standard work, focusing on engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality, and validation of technology development tasks. The Engineer will be accountable to the Component Integrated Product Team, Module Center Management and Engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support a rig development team as tactical leader to meet task and technical requirements.
  • Work closely with team members and authorities on part and rig system development.
  • Recommend improvements and identify and address project problems.
  • Analyze data gathered and develop solutions and recommendations to solve problems, meet deadlines and optimize performance, with the occasional technical mentoring of an experienced member in the CIPT.
  • Communicate status and technical content to the CIPT.
  • Perform Control Account Manager duties for the task: track progress, identify and resolve obstacles to minimize disruption to project budget and schedules to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Integrate and manage sourcing activities with procurement, industrial, and manufacturing team members and the internal/external supply chain, and coordinate timely creation/release of product definition.
  • Lead risk assessments and risk‑mitigation planning as well as actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Travel up to 10%.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • 5years of engineering experience or 3years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Demonstrated strong team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer focus.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and engineering presentations to all levels of management.
  • Experience in the aerospace/jet engine industry, previous gas‑turbine compressor experience and design‑development experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a team‑leader role or similar task‑leadership position.
  • Working proficiency with MS Office, Teamcenter, MS Project.
  • Experience in Agile Project Management, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience working with Jira software package.
  • Thorough understanding of continuous improvement principles (e.g. Customer Oriented Results  and Excellence (CORE), Quality Control Process Charts (QCPC)).
  • Proficiency in use of program/project management tools (e.g. Systems Applications and Products (SAP), Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Teamcenter).
  • Demonstration of skills consistent with the Pratt& Whitney Leadership Operating Model.

Department Overview

Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) is responsible for the design, development, and in‑service support of all fans, low‑pressure and high‑pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models. CSE focuses on the identification and maturation of new technologies for these products. Technical disciplines include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition.

Role Details

Onsite location in Hartford, CT. Salary range: 86,800

USD – 165,200

USD. The role may include travel up to 10% and requires U.S. citizenship or authorized immigration status.
