Position: CDS Mechanical Controls Product Center, Principal Engineer P4 (Onsite)

Overview

Control System Engineering & Electrification (CSEE) is seeking a Mechanical Controls Hardware Systems Engineer. The role requires strong technical, communication, and teamwork skills to lead end-to-end requirements lifecycle across complex mechanical systems. The engineer will partner with suppliers, design teams, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and program leadership to develop robust component solutions and ensure alignment with system and program objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead an Integrated Product Team for Mechanical Product Center components.
  • Lead requirements management for Fuel, Actuation, Air & Lube system architectures and associated mechanical components.
  • Provide technical leadership for Fuel, Air & Lube system components including Pumps, Fuel Controls & associated hardware, Fueldraulic Actuators, Air Valves, Filters, Sensors and instrumentation interfaces.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface between internal engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Facilitate design reviews, requirement reviews, and technical decision forums.
  • Decompose customer, program, and system-level requirements into detailed subsystem and component-level requirements.
  • Perform requirements analysis to evaluate completeness, traceability, and technical risk.
  • Resolve requirement conflicts and support technical trade studies to optimize performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
  • Ensure requirements are measurable, testable, and aligned with product qualification expectations.
  • Develop verification plans, including analysis, inspection, testing, and demonstration methods.
  • Review supplier technical proposals, analyses, drawings, and qualification evidence.
  • Mentor engineers in requirements-based engineering practices and mechanical system development.
Qualifications

You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • 8 years of engineering experience or 5 years with an advanced degree.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Ability to lead a cross-functional team.
  • Experience working with suppliers.
  • Strong experience with: mechanical system integration, supplier technical management, requirements management, decomposition and traceability, requirements analysis and validation, verification and validation methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of fluid system principles including pressure loss, flow control, thermal effects, contamination control, and system interfaces.
  • Experience leading technical reviews and making architecture-level decisions.

Role Type:
Onsite. This role is U.S.

-based; the candidate will work primarily onsite at the assigned location. Some steps of the interview process may be conducted in person at one of RTX offices.

Salary and Application Window

Salary range: 107,500 USD – 204,500 USD. RTX notes this is a good faith estimate and considers various factors when extending offers. RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from posting, but this may be adjusted.
