What You Will Do- Support military and commercial engine programs across the value stream in safety management system fundamentals. In this position you would work within the SMS Program Office on a variety of potential projects involving hazard identification and assessment, proactive risk management, operational safety, investigations, and SMS program administration. You will:
- Support programs on safety risk assessments and collaborate on mitigation strategies, and the safety investigations team with investigative work, data analysis and database management solutions
- Support the SMS Program Office, Product Safety Officer, and SMS Leadership in data analysis and other tasks aimed at improving P&W's overall safety system and proactive safety processes
- Monitor the status of safety metrics to identify emerging issues and adverse trends, working with the responsible IPTs/CIPTs/Customer Support Engineering to identify root cause and corrective actions.
- Collect and analyze human factors data and provide meaningful insights to assist in continuous improvement of P&W systems and processes.
- The SMS Program Office is uniquely positioned with scope spanning the entire company, and works on problems associated with all parts of the value stream across all programs. This position provides an unique point of view to learn the entire company and an opportunity to interface with leaders and technical experts across many organizations.
- Safety risk management tools, investigative techniques, hazard assessment techniques, and SMS fundamentals will be engrained in the daily operations tempo of this position. Interfaces with government agencies and external investigative bodies are an everyday occurrence.
- Additional classes on safety processes and tools are available, as well as frequent access to subject matter experts, for additional learning opportunities.
- Engineering Interns at Pratt & Whitney work on challenging, meaningful, and impactful projects across our business. Our intern program seeks to help you develop an understanding of the aerospace industry and learn about our company and its operations.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
- Experience with Manufacturing, Military, Aerospace, or Aviation.
- Familiarity with safety systems.
- Knowledge using Microsoft office suite.
- Knowledge of aircraft engine systems and validation processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability in responding to new business challenges
